The Immortal Phoenix is referenced in Tale 4 They Call Him...the Turtle Hermit!, when Kame Sen'nin attempts to summon it to give to Son Goku as a reward for bringing his Turtle back to the ocean.

Unfortunately, Turtle reminds Kame Sen'nin that the Immortal Phoenix is dead, due to an incident involving tainted bird seed.

The Immortal Phoenix is never mentioned again.

  • The Immortal Phoenix is an obvious reference to the mythical fire bird which appears in many world-wide mythologies, including Chinese mythology as Fenghuang, which is likely what this was based on.
  • Phoenixes are supposed to be reborn from the ashes when they die, hence why Bulma was so taken aback by the revelation that it was dead.
