Sanshinkyū the official name for the dragon ball with three stars and is used to refer to it during the early chapters of Dragon Ball, before it's replaced by simply referring to it as the 'three-star ball'. The naming derives from Chinese and literally means 'two stars'.

The Sanshinkyū of Earth was skimmed off the ocean floor by Kame Sen'nin, around roughly Age 650 and he used it as a necklace, until Age 749, when he gave it to Bulma as a reward for flashing him.
